Message from the Mayor.

Under the unique and beautifully towering Fujisan, the City of Fujiyoshida is hugged by the arms of Mt. Fuji.  Fujiyoshida a high-plains city located in the South Eastern ward of Yamanashi Prefecture and positioned on the northern side of Mt. Fuji at a height of 650 to 900 meters above sea level.

Situated within 100km of the circle of Tokyo and largely contained within Fuji-Hakone-Izu national park, Fujiyoshida City is surrounded by nature.  Since the city’s founding in March 1951, Fujiyoshida has flourished as the center of politics, economics, and culture in the Fuji Northern region.

Currently, Japan is going through many changes.  Localities throughout Japan, while concentrating on knowledge and ingenuity, and measuring cooperation between local organizations, are continuing to build community by applying unique local characteristics.  Together with the people of Fujiyoshida, I hope to focus on local knowledge and ingenuity to support development of a comfortable and cheerful city.  I believe a decentralized authority that focuses on the citizens supports and advances city development from the bottom up.

On this homepage, we introduce the very popular live relay of Mt. Fuji, a gallery of seasonal images of Mt. Fuji, as well as information about Fujiyoshida’s specialty food, Yoshida Udon.  We aim to keep this website fresh with new information, and hope that it will create an opportunity for many more people to come and visit Fujiyoshida.  We look forward to your visit!
