Fujizakura Festival --

Late April

Celebrating the blossoms of Fujiyoshida's official flower, the Fuji Zakura (cherry blossom). These unique trees color the lower reaches of Mt. Fuji while taiko drumming, games, and fun for the families takes place at Pines Park.

Mt. Fuji Opening Festival--June 30-July 1 Every Year

These two days mark the opening of Mt. Fuji's climbing season. Day 1 starts with a parade from Fujiyoshida Stn to Fuji Sengen Shrine where an elaborate purification cereomony takes place. Traditional hikers, horses, dancers, and a gaurdian diety of Mt. Fuji all participate! Day 2 involves more purifying ceremonies.

Fuji Mountain Race--Last Friday of July

An arduous test of endurance running to the top of a 3700m volcano!

City Foundation Festival--July 26, 2003

This annual event celebrates the establishment of Mt. Fuji's most famous city! Parades, foodstalls, dancing, competitions, and more!

 

Takigi Noh--First week of August

Fire Festival--August 26-27

Fujiyoshida Art Festival--Early September

The downtown district of Fujiyoshida is turned into a museum showcasing cutting-edge contemporary artiests from Japan and around the world.

Yabusame Festival--Mid September

Dating back over four centuries, this equestrian archery event is unique to this area and predicts the fortune of the year. Find out more Here

Deer God Festival--Early October

Annual round-up and antler cutting ceremony of the deer at Fuji Sengen Shrine. Priests wrestle the beasts to the earth and hold them down as others saw off their horns. These, in turn, are used for mystic purpses.
